Raisin' da Bar in KL

Whenever I tell people I used to DJ in China their first reaction is to say "how cool." My answer has always been that it is not cool at all – any foreign-looking person with a few MP3s and a bunch of friends can get a job DJing at a club in China . Before coming to Malaysia I thought the situation here would be the same. Not that I was looking for a job spinning, but I wasn’t expecting much from the nightlife. I was expecting to have a lot of fun, but in other ways.

That all changed today when I ran into DJ Black. I suddenly realized that even if I had kept up with the latest trends in the music world I would never be able to compete in this local scene… The guy has simply raised “da bar” for the rest of us in the profession. He puts the night in nightlife, he puts the shiny sparkle back on your pearly-whites, he puts the blond wig on a bald head. He is DJ Black! And the best part – you can get roasted chicken as you dance to his tunes!!
